Work in the community

CHARITY STARTS AT HOME

Manike was launched by Indi and her brothers in memory of their mother who was called Badrika Manike. She passed away at a tender age when they were all young and babies. This is Indi’s way of helping people in need and keeping her mother’s legacy of helping people is a duty, not a request. Through a variety of projects, we work toward changing the fashion status quo.

The projects start from many an idea, proposal, brief, or challenge and are led by Indi and her team. Her projects assist in fair trade, sustainability education, dry food rations donations, on the job training plus skill development, community impact projects, connecting international buyers with local rural, village-based artisans plus craftsman’s, assisting orphanages, assisting the development of religious sites/activities, LGBTQ voice for legalization in Sri Lanka, emergency funding for medical supplies/operations of people and education for underprivileged kids. Often collaborating with external organizations, brands, and institutions.

Women Empowerment

Women are mostly affected when it comes to unemployment and poverty. Without any income of their own, they need to depend on men for anything and everything. If men are also unemployed, if they are widowed or not married at all, the matter gets worse. Women empowerment through self-reliance and financial independence can be achieved by providing job security, through which women can either start up something of their own or take- up a job.
Indi as such through her brands has employed women, trained them and placed them in jobs, to make them feel important and accepted in the Sri Lanka society.Currently, we employ in various roles with our brands directly or

Ape Gama / National Craft Council Sri Lanka / Local Artisans

This long term partnership is made with the aspiration of preserving local textiles and crafts. The approach the fashion industry has made to the local crafts of many communities has been successful. The view is to work towards that goal in Sri Lanka.
Incorporating the rich heritage of Sri Lankan traditional arts and crafts, “CRAFTALIVE” targets on empowering young artisans through fashion design in order to create individual creative products and collections. The Crafts Council of Sri Lanka was headed by its Chairman Buddhi Keerthisena, under the aegis of the Ministry of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development and the President of Colombo Fashion Week Ajai Vir Singh. The council strives to promote collaborations and the unique integration of fashion and crafts that will enable Sri Lankan designers and craft artists to develop distinctly exceptional fashion and lifestyle products.
